The researchers found that lead-free metal halide double perovskite materials can be prepared in a low-temperature solution method with low production costs. In addition, due to the confinement of its own structure and the strong electric-phonon coupling effect, double perovskite materials have unique self-trapped excitonic properties (STE), and their composite luminescence shows a large Stokes shift and broadband light emission, thereby exhibiting the characteristics of white light emission.

In order to promote radiative recombination, the researchers further adopted a trace Sb3+ doping strategy to increase the quantum efficiency of white light from 5% to more than 90%. Due to the high optoelectronic performance and excellent solution machinability of the prepared low-dimensional double perovskite material, a single-component warm white LED based on this material can be prepared by a simple solution method, thus, this work is promising for next-generation lighting devices.
